For the Third Ward’s October Gallery Night Friday, troche October 18, Pfister Artist-in-Residence Stephanie Barenz and former Pfister Artist Timothy Westbrook have curated an art exhibit to display the talent of associates across the three hotels. The second annual exhibit, titled “The Art of Marcus,” will be running in conjunction with Barenz’s display on Friday, October 18 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at The Pfister Hotel, and will include everything from painting to poetry.
“Last year, when he was The Pfister’s Artist in Residence, Timothy started learning about all the hidden artistic talents of his fellow Marcus Hotels associates, and he decided to concept a show to celebrate their work,” said Barenz. “I’m honored to help carry on that tradition and bring their talents to the greater community.”
Stephanie Barenz’s Small Works Exhibit
“The Art of Marcus” exhibit will be shown in the Rouge Ballroom on the lobby level of The Pfister Hotel, while Barenz will have her work on display in her studio down the hall. Barenz will be exhibiting a series of approximately 15 small works inspired by the transient nature and stories of The Pfister Hotel, its architecture, and surrounding neighborhoods. In her time as artist in residence, Barenz has discovered that The Pfister is a “microcosm of the world” and has been creating works based on its guests’ backgrounds, featuring places like Cambodia, Hong Kong, and countries throughout Europe. In the spirit of their collaboration, Pfister Narrator Molly Snyder will be displaying some of the stories she has written about Barenz’s work in the gallery, as well.
Public Reception & Awards Ceremony
Following Gallery Night, a public reception will take place in the Rouge Ballroom from 9:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., with awards being given for “The Art of Marcus” participants beginning at 10:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy complimentary snacks and a cash bar. Awards will be given to artists in the following categories: The Pfister Hotel Best in Show, InterContinental Milwaukee Best in Show, Hilton Milwaukee City Center Best in Show and Viewer’s Choice. An ‘Overall Best in Show’ winner also will be named and will receive the opportunity to have a full exhibit on display at Gallerie M inside InterContinental Milwaukee at a future date. Category winners will receive prizes from Marcus Theatres, Digital Edge, Utrecht Art Supply, and more.

Gallery Night at Gallerie M, InterContinental Milwaukee
In addition to “The Art of Marcus” exhibit at The Pfister Hotel, Today’s Artist Guild will present “La Crème de La Crème,” a juried exhibition showcasing more than a dozen Milwaukee artists, yet to be announced at The InterContinental Milwaukee. The exhibit will highlight local artists ranging in mediums from mixed-media to photography and painting. The exhibit will be juried by a panel consisting of Today’s Art Guild members.
