THE PFISTER® HOTEL TO HOST FIRST EVER “CLACK-A-THON”

Six local writers to compete in two-hour performance, check taking audience requests on manual typewriters

The Pfister Narrator, Anja Notanja Sieger, in collaboration with The Pfister® Hotel, owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, will host her first ever CLACK-A-THON on Friday, April 17, 2015, from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. in the hotel’s Rouge Ballroom. The rousing event will feature six typists on six typewriters taking on-the-spot audience requests for written pieces, case such as love letters, insults, and letters from pets. At the end of the evening, the audience will decide which talented “clackist” will walk away with the championship cup.

The CLACK-A-THON will immediately follow newly named Pfister Artist-in-Residence Todd Mrozinski’s inaugural show as part of the Historic Third Ward’s Gallery Night. Throughout the event, guests will enjoy live music by John Sieger, and during the 15-minute intermission, they can watch Mrozinski trace the shadows of the CLACK-A-THON players.

“Guests should be prepared for a teeth clenched, knuckles bared performance,” said Anja Notanja Sieger. “This half-improvised literary performance explores how live audience pressure and personal customization affects the creation of a written masterpiece.”

The event is free and open for the public to join the crowd cheering on the typists, alongside artist Renee Bebeau who will be performing as a cheerleader. Guests can enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The players in the event include: Jenna Kashou, freelance journalist and former Pfister Narrator; Freesia McKee, feminist poet and activist and frequent La Prosette contributor; Molly Snyder of OnMilwaukee.com and former Pfister Narrator; Nick Ramsey, poet laureate of Racine, Wisc.; Monj?a Jan Berenby, performance artist and frequent La Prosette contributor; and poet Monica Thomas.

“Over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of watching Anja type and create in the hotel’s lobby and share stories on our blog,” said Tim Smith, general manager of The Pfister. “This event is the perfect culmination of her time as Pfister Narrator.”

In addition to serving as the current Pfister Narrator through April 2015, Sieger is the founder of “La Prosette,” a one-woman typewriter performance writing service.

About The Pfister Hotel

The Pfister Hotel has been the premier hotel in downtown Milwaukee for over 120 years.  Originally built in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister, it was the most lavish hotel of its time. The hotel’s storied elegance had faded following World War II, until 1962, when Ben Marcus, founder of The Marcus Corporation purchased this grand hotel out of bankruptcy.  The Marcus family renovated and restored the hotel to its original glory, adding convention facilities, a parking garage and 23-story guest tower. The Pfister Hotel remains home to the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, and recently unveiled an interactive augmented reality tour of pieces in this impressive collection.

Today the Pfister Hotel continues its tradition of gracious service and impeccable style, and has been recognized for 39 consecutive years by AAA as a Four-Diamond property.  The hotel is also an ongoing member of two prestigious organizations, the Historic Hotels of America and Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The Pfister Hotel is located at 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee. More information and updates on the hotel can be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/thePfisterHotel and on Twitter (@PfisterHotel).
